Lacey Fantasy

Because knitting, sewing, crochet, and needlework aren’t enough hobbies for me, I do occasionally indulge in some machine embroidery. I thought that my latest projects would be of interest to at least a few of you.

Lace dragon and unicorn

These are two free-standing lace pieces I made using my embroidery machine, regular cotton sewing thread, and files from Urban Threads.

Prancing Unicorn, designed by Urban Threads

I just send the file to the embroidery machine, hoop up a piece of water-soluble stabilizer, and set the machine to doing its thing. It takes around 5 to 15 minutes per piece. I then wash away the stabilizer, let everything dry, and assemble using butterfly pins.

Fierce Dragon, designed by Urban Threads

Unfortunately, the dragon didn’t turn out as nicely as the unicorn. You can see there is a bit of separation on the right wing. Still, I’m pretty happy with him.

I’ve got a few more fantasy designs like these to make, including a mermaid. And then it is on to Christmas designs, like a sleigh for Santa.

I don’t see the unicorn picture, just a placeholder for it. The dragon is cool.

Ok, weird, the two missing pictures showed up when the screen refreshed after my last comment.

These are fun, are they really that simple to produce? I’d have a whole host of dragons in different colours!
