Little Lighthouse

I know I’ve been working on a lot of smalls this year (heck, I’ve got a whole Smalls SAL going on!), but sometimes you need something even smaller!

A little lighthouse

A little lighthouse

The kit was a gift from a knitting friend who was getting rid of some of her cross stitch supplies. I think is was from the DMC mentor program (which apparently they still do). It was a very quick stitch, but I think the kit would have been confusing for complete beginners. Not only do two of the reds look almost identical, the colour names don’t really help you figure out which should be the darker one and which the brighter one. (I was too lazy to get out my colour card, so I guessed).) And, for a couple of the stitches, you actually need to pierce the adia cloth. That isn’t something I would get a complete beginner to do.

If you like this design, DMC has a freebie that features a more detailed version of this lighthouse. Check it out here.

Were you ever part of the DMC mentor program? If so, did you use the supplies to teach anyone? Which kits did you have? (I had a flower, I think.)

I like it on the blue cloth very nice.

Cute finish. I agree there are some things that make this a more advanced beginner’s chart. I was never part of the mentor program but I did do a cross stitch pillow project with a Girl Scout troop once (and only once!! the kids were great but the parents – not so much)
