My New Machine

It seems like nearly everyone was disappointed with Amazon Prime Day. Weird BBQ parts and foam exercise rollers aren’t everyone’s idea of a hot deal, but there were some great prices on things that, well, we may not have needed… but, you know how it goes. I had my eye on a pretty Singer sewing machine that went on sale at 8am. I missed it, though, since I needed to get my little guy ready for camp.

It was all for the best.

At 5pm a great sewing/embroidery machine came up at a super price and after being stuck on the waiting list for over 30 minutes, I managed to buy one! I am now the proud owner of a Brother LB6810, an entry level embroidery machine! Yay!!!

I’ve messed around with it a little bit, but it has been slow going since I need embroidery thread (which I had no idea was different than sewing thread), stabilizer, cool designs to stitch, and some courage to try it out. I’ve got lots of great ideas though!

My first attempt at machine embroidery

My first attempt at machine embroidery

This was my first test–stitching two different designs together and aligning them nicely. I think I did a good job, but there is a bit of puckering under the crown. I’m sure I will get better with practice.

Do any of you have an embroidery machine? Do you have any advice you can offer?

Very nice! I was also disappointed in the Amazon prime day. I think they did it to get new members.

Congrats on the new toy, Heather! I’ve never used one, but my neighbor loves hers. Your first attempt is really pretty. Have fun!

Oh man I should have kept on there! I don’t have patience for timed sales lol. It looks great it’ll be fun watching you play!

oh I love my brother embroidery machine ! You will be so pleased with it once you get to grips with the techniques- one trick is to always use the right stabiliser and don’t scrimp on it. I love incorporating designs into my quilts and people love receiving Xmas cards and birthday cards made on the machine. Find yourself some of the excellent sites where you can get designs – I recommend Embroidery Library and Secrets of Embroidery for ideas and free designs. Best of Luck!

  6. Your first attempt looks great! The only advice I have is be sure to use a quality stabilizer – I like Sulky tear away. If you use water soluable, use two layers. Have fun! I have a Brother PC7500, and used it for a long time, eventually I got tired of the same designs and needed to upgrade, but alas, not to be.
