Goldwork Dragonfly – Part 1

I am so excited to be taking an online goldwork class from Alison Cole. It is a lovely little dragonfly brooch, just right for beginners.

This past weekend, I finished the first lesson, which includes attaching the felt base, couching on the Gilt Pearl Purl #2, making flowers using ribbon, and attaching Mill Hill beads and Gilt Bright Check Purl like it was a bead. All in all, it has gone pretty smoothly so far. My stitches and flowers aren’t quite as neat as I would like, but I don’t think they look too bad.

The next lesson will be released at the end of the week, and I’m really looking forward to finishing up this piece. And, I think I might be looking for some more easy goldwork projects to try in the future.

Have you ever tried goldwork? Do you have any suggestions for easy projects/kits for a beginner to try?

It looks really great! I wanted to take this class. I can’t remember why I didn’t sign up. Maybe Alison will have kits at seminar and I’ll snag one.

That’s beautiful! You’re far more adventurous than me, I would have no idea of any kits to recommend.
