A Fancy Hat

Hello, Stitchy Friends! I found myself running way behind all of last year. So many projects just didn’t get finished on time and so they were left partially planned and totally undone. I wanted to change that this year. Holidays and special events come and go so quickly and it is so important to recognize them.

With that in mind, I got out all the bits and pieces for a big Halloween project that I really, really wanted to have done for last year. It combined lots of different materials and techniques, but mostly involved using my Cricut. I was so afraid I was going to mess it up that I never got started. Isn’t that silly? Instead of just trying it and maybe making a mistake (with materials that I had lots of too), I left everything to sit in the craft closet.

Witch’s Night Out Hat

What do you think? This is my take on a Cricut project called Witch’s Night Out Hat. (Here’s a link to a post on the Official Cricut Facebook page.)

The ribbon is just plain with heat transfer vinyl applied to it. The flowers and spider are all made from paper. I inked the edges of the pink one with a darker pink and the very edges of the purple one with gold ink. I then added feathers, cloth ribbon, and a gold glittered tulle to complete the hat.

I added a skull bead to the centre of the pink flower as a cute little surprise.

The large purple lotus-like flower is my favourite. I think I may make more of it.

If you have a Cricut, this project is listed under “Free for Cricut Explore Air 2”. It uses flowers from the Giant Flowers and Flower Shoppe cartridges.

What projects are you putting off? Or what do you have planned that has a hard deadline? Leave a comment. I’d love to hear all about them!

  1. Heather, I too often delay the start of a project from thinking that its too hard or so complicated to do. Then I get into it and wonder what the heck I was worried about since it wasn’t that hard once I broke it down into steps. This is something i find myself struggling with most often. Having said that, your had is FANTASTIC! It turned out better than the pattern you started with!

Oh, Nicole, you are too sweet. I think I get stuck in my head too much and worry about ruining everything. But, at the end of the day, the worst that would happen is that I’m out some supplies and I’ve learned what not to do. I just need to remind myself of that!

Heather: I love what you designed it is a lovely hat, I really like that you put pin k on the hat, who says everything has to be purple black green and orange.
    It is beautiful.

  4. That’s a very flamboyant hat – definitely for the Night Out To End All Nights Out!

Wow that turned out too cute!

This is lovely! Making those flowers must have been quite therapeutic I think. Now you just have to wait for 31st October to wear it! 🙂

The hat is fabulous! A very glamorous witch will be wearing it this Hallowe’en.
I’m the same, always putting off the fully finishing. I’m hoping that Rachel’s new SAL will help me with that this year.
