I’m getting back in the groove, ladies, and I thought I’d get started with some interesting and fun needlework news that I’ve been saving up.
- Old Sweaters New Again – Mary Maxim and Roots have teamed up to sell remakes of vintage curling sweaters. You can also listen all about it on this broadcast from 610 CKTB (starts at 44:26). You can get yours in November from Roots (fully knit) and as a kit from Mary Maxim (in December).
- Where There is a Will To Stitch… – Miss Yang Pei of Malaysia lost her arms in a tragic accident when she was a child. She has since learned to stitch using her toes and makes speaking appearances to encourage children to pursue their dreams.
- Stitching Machine – Researchers have created awesome fabric circuits boards that can be washed, folded, and even shot! Just think of the applications! Maybe someday soon we can stitch on fabric computers.
- Table Cloths for Charity – 95-year old Gertrude Treat stitches tables cloths for $100 apiece and donates her profits to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Massachusetts. Her work is stunning, and you should click through to have a peek. I can only hope that I will be half as talented when I am her age.
- Yarn Ramen – I have a soft spot of crocheted food, and I just love this video. It is in Japanese, but you can still marvel at his skill, and at how realistic the finished product appears.
