According to their website, World Wide Knit in Public Day began in 2005, by Danielle Landes, as a way to for knitters to come together. Since then, it has grown into a worldwide event, with Knit in Public days taking place in over 30 countries. (Check out this page to see if there is an event near you.)

Knitting at the park

Knitting at the park

I’ve been known to knit in public on occasion. Usually, when I take the little man over to the park I will bring along a bit of knitting to keep myself entertained. I also like to take knitting along if I know I’m going to be stuck in a waiting room for a while.

Do you knit or crochet in public? Are you planning on taking part in any WWKIP Day events this year? Leave a comment; I’d love to hear about it.

If you stitch but don’t knit, don’t worry. There are Stitch in Public Days too. They don’t seem to be as organized as the WWKIP day, but I did find some information. For example, it looks like the EGA holds their Stitch in Public day in September, although no date has been set for this year as of yet. If you know more, please let us all know.

Well….since learning to crochet not so long ago, I tend to always have the blankie I’m working on with me so I can do a few rounds whenever I have a moment. I prefer to knit or crochet when out as opposed to stitching….I find that it requires less focus than stitching 🙂

I don’t knit, but if I did I would do it in public!

I stitch in public, whenever I go on a train I take some stitching with me. Last week I got chatting to a very nice lady who decided to buy a magazine and have a go at the cover kit.

My knitting group met at several locations last week for Knit in Public Week. I was unable to attend but a good time was had by those who took part.

EGA USA has their Stitch In Public Day in February. Members of my local Chapter meet at a local hobby store and stitch. We were able to get a few new members as a result of the stitch in public events.
