February Turtle Trot

It is the same old story: I really haven’t had much time to work on things and I didn’t make much progress on my Turtle Trot projects. I did, however, at least get some work done on my Torah Stitch by Stitch.

Once I’m done the border, I’ll be stitching some birds in the empty area. The Torah Stitch by Stitch organizers have provided some charts, and I think they look interesting.

My goal is to have this finished by the end of the month, and cross one project off my Turtle Trot list.

Wonder what Turtle Trot is? Check out BAP Attack. But, in a nut shell, we are working our way (slowly) through some of our projects and posting monthly updates.

Tooth Fairy

Well, I was away for a little longer than I expected. This past Monday, the day after we returned home from our trip, I began a week of jury duty. In my city, we are called up for a week to sit on a selection panel. Our chances of being picked to be on a jury depends on how many trials are happening that week and, of course, how the two attorneys feel about you. I figured I was in for a week of waiting around, reading and knitting. But, by about 11:30 Monday morning I was picked to be on a jury. There went my week, and it isn’t over yet. On Tuesday we will hear closing arguments and be sequestered to make out decision. Hopefully it will only take that day, but who knows.

Anyway, on to other things! The Olympics are on again, so that means it is also time for the Ravellenic Games over on Ravelry. This weekend I’ve been working on a couple of projects, and finished up one.

The pattern is a freebie from Knit Picks: Tooth Fairy Pillow. The yarn is Knit Picks Brava in white. I made a few changes to the pattern, doing the roots like two-at-a-time toe-up socks using Judy’s Magic cast-on, and picking up stitches to knit the pocket.

When I finished it up, I told the little man that he can now start loosing his teeth. 😉

Gong Hei Fay Choi – Year of the Horse

Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese-New-Year-2014-Horse-1If all is going well, we should be enjoying a relaxing day at sea. Tomorrow, we stop at Key West, and the on to home on Sunday. I’m not sure if the ship will be doing anything to recognize the Lunar New Year, but who knows.

歲歲平安 (May you have peace year after year.)

TUSAL – January Check-In #2

Two new moons in one month means two Totally Useless SAL check-ins in one month, as well. Today we are in Cozumel, probably watching a sea lion show. I’m hoping we will have a chance to have some really Mexican food, but my husband doesn’t like it…

TUSAL - January 2014 (part 2)

TUSAL – January 2014 (part 2)

This is what my little ort container looked like before I left for my vacation last week. I doubt that I’ve had much time to stitch on my trip. I’ve found on past trips that the ship moves to much for me to stitch easily. I usually knit instead. The container is mostly full of black orts, since I’ve been working on my Torah Stitch by Stitch piece. (The picture is bad because I snapped it quickly the afternoon before we left.)

tusalIf you’d like to know more about the TUSAL, check out this page on It’s Daffycat. Sharon lays it all out for you there.

Smalls SAL – January Check-in

Welcome to the very first check in of the 2014 Smalls SAL! Hopefully all goes well with post, because right now I am actually in Grand Cayman. I’m either busy playing with dolphins, or excitedly exclaiming to my husband every few minutes “I just kissed a dolphin!” It should be a good day!

SmallsSAL2014Anyway, back to the Smalls SAL. I’ll lay out the rules quickly: sign up here, stitch something small every month (you decide what is a small, and you decide which months you want to participate), pop over here the last Wednesday of every month and leave your link, and (hopefully) visit some of the other participants’ blogs too. Sign-ups never close. But, I do close the link lists about a week after opening them for the month. Why? Because for each month you enter you get one entry into the end of the year draw. What will this year’s prize be? I have a few ideas. 😉 (If you want to add something to the prize, please let me know.)

Weathervane, designed by Teresa Wentzler

This month I stitched Teresa Wentzler’s Weather Vane, which was in the August 1989 issue of Just Cross Stitch. It is stitched as per the pattern, on a piece of linen of some kind. I like how she added some small specialty stitches to an otherwise very simple design.

So, what did you stitch this month? Please leave your link below. And, please try to visit some of the other participants. We all love visitors and comments. 😉 The link list will stay open for about a week.

Next Month’s Check-in Date: February’s check-in will begin on the 26th. With any luck, I’ll be at home and not still busy with jury duty!

Bon Voyage

If all has gone well, I’ll be here right now:

I Wish I Could Stay Here Forever Bar on Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

I Wish I Could Stay Here Forever Bar on Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

That actually is me, about 40lbs heavier and around a year and a half ago. The ship in the distance is Holland America’s Zuiderdam. This time we are on the Nieuw Amsterdam, and on our way to Grand Caymen and Cozumel. I’ve brought knitting and some cross stitch, and a whole pile of books. I’m hoping to get a lot of nothing done, except getting warm. 😉

Don’t worry. The house isn’t empty. Also, I’ve got some posts scheduled for this week in case I can’t get decent Internet access. Most importantly, the first check-in for the Smalls SAL is all ready to go. It’s this Wednesday. Don’t forget!
