Santa Needlebook

I’m so glad to see that there are still some people following along with the Ornament SAL. I know it is easy to lose steam, especially in the summer. And, I don’t know about where you are, but the weather here has been so lovely for the past couple of weeks that it is hard to think about Christmas or stitching at all. But we must! Christmas is about 141 days away!!

Speaking of Christmas, my mom has been asking me for a needlebook since just about last Christmas. And, since she loves Santa, I took a look through my pile of finished ornaments and made this for her:

The design is 2006 Santa by Vermillion Stitchery, and was in the 2006 Just Cross Stitch ornament issue. I originally shared it back in December 2011 here. I made it into a needlebook using the directions in the book [amazon_link id=”1603424490″ target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]One Yard Wonders[/amazon_link] as an inspiration. (If you like to sew, this is a great book! It has all sorts of fun ideas. I’ll be sharing another project from it later this week.)

Inside is green felt, the perfect place for my mom to store her (expensive!) beading needles. The interior fabric is the same as the fabric on the back cover.

I’m so happy with how it turned out! I wish I hadn’t waited so long to make it. But, I’m a nervous sewist, and I didn’t want to make a mistake. I think my patience was well rewarded, and I hope my mom feels the same way.

The stitching is gorgeous and I love how the needlebook turned out. Methinks I need to get my hands on this book 🙂

So pretty! I love Donna Vermillion’s designs. I seem to gravitate toward the simpler designs nowadays, but I still love the intricate shading and back-stitching!

    Very nice gift…

  5. Anna says:

Fab! Your mom should love it! (I also have that book. How have I missed that it has directions for making a needlebook?) (Because the needlebook is not stitched, but just made out of fabric?)

Oh WOW!!! Congrats on the gorgeous finish.

Such neat finishing! I love the word “sewist” too so much better than “sewer” LOL.
