I’m pretty sure at some point not too long ago I said I didn’t like stitching on wood. But, well, when I saw the cover kit on the August 2014 issue of The Cross Stitcher… well.
This time things went much better. I didn’t run out of floss (which is amazing in cover kits!), the wooden piece was a little nicer, and I didn’t have to fight my ends to get them buried.
The piece is intended to be worn as a necklace, hence the two larger holes in the tops of the wings. I’m not sure if that is what I will use it for though, since it isn’t something I would wear. But, I have been contemplating finishing it with black felt on the back and giving it as a gift to a friend’s daughter. I think she would like it. Unfortunately, attaching the felt can’t happen until I have my scissors back. (Yes, my in-laws still have some of my craft supplies. Mainly tools for all my crafts and cross stitch fabric.)
Have you stitched on wood? Did you enjoy it? How did you use the finished piece, and was it durable? I’ve been eyeing some blanks at Red Gate Stitchery…
Yes, I stitches the other wooden kit that came with CrossStitcher earlier in the year. I quite enjoyed it but my hands hurt after :S
Your butterfly looks lovely 🙂
I have not bought this magazine…yet…but did like the idea of stitching on wood. I have never done so and you give good feed-back so maybe.
I saw that kit and pondered getting the magazine. Turned out very nicely. Would also make a good ornament if you covered the back.
Lovely butterfly. I haven’t stitched on wood….maybe…someday ;0)

I love the butterfly. I missed that edition of the magazine.
I have stitched on wood before and it is a lot different.
Cute finish.
I’ve never stitched on wood. I’m kinda curious to try it now.
That is so lovely! I love the idea you stitch on the wood.
Very cute. I’ve never stitched on wood, paper is as stiff a medium as I have ever used. This would make a cute tag or keychain.
I’ve stitched this too, and it was my first time on wood – I quite liked the quality of the butterfly shape, but I had to fight a little to bury the ends. Not enough to put me off though 🙂 Congrats on the finish.
I have not stitched on wood but you have made a lovely job of this butterfly.
Cross Stitcher is a magazine I went off and no longer subscribe too.
