Saturday School – DMC Floss

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve seen how yarn is spun and dyed. Today, I thought we could see how DMC makes embroidery thread.

DMC began life under a slightly another name in 1746 when it was founded by Jean-Henri Dollfus. It was later renamed Dollfus-Mieg et Compagnie (DMC) on March 21, 1800. It has been a textile company since the start, but the cotton floss we all know and love wasn’t produced until 1899.

You can learn more about DMC, and see some more factory pictures, on their website.
