I’ve mentioned in several blog posts that I’m taking part in the 10 Book Reading Challenge hosted by Vickie over at Reading and Stitching. Well, last night I stayed up a little too late and finished my last book.
Here’s the list of books I said I was going to read:
- History of Hand Knitting by Richard Rutt
- Paul of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson
- I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
- Empire by Orson Scott Card
- Way of the Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock
- Dark Mirror by Juliette Marillier
- Blade of Fortriu by Juliette Marillier
- Mircosurfs by Douglas Coupland
- Knitter’s Almanac by Elizabeth Zimmerman
- Dairy of Lady Mursaki by Murasaki Shikibu
And here is what I ended up reading:
- History of Hand Knitting by Richard Rutt
- The Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber
- I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith
- A Good Yarn (Blossom Street, No. 2) by Debbie Macomber
- Empire by Orson Scott Card
- Norstrilia by Cordwainer Smith (aka Paul Linebarger)
- Mr. Darcy’s Diary by Amanda Grange
- Mirror Mirror by Gregory Maguire
- The Way Of The Green Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock
- A Woman’s Guide to a Simpler Life by Andrea Van Steenhouse and Doris A. Fuller
So, I read four of the ten books I set out to read. It’s not so much that I am all that fickle, but rather that I read the books that I got in as reserves at the library. Most of the books on my original list are from my personal library, so they will always be around. Everything on the list of books I actually read were from the library. With my local branch closing for 18 months at the end of the year, I figured it was better to save my books for later.
Some of the books I read were great (Norstrilia, I Capture the Castle, Mr. Darcy’s Diary and The Way of the Green Witch), some were good, and some were just awful. But, I would have to say I’m glad read all of those books. I learned something from every one of them.
Don’t forget, today is Day 4 of Missy Ann’s 13 Days of Halloween. Stop by her blog to enter.
So what was the verdict on _Empire_? I’m a big fan of Card’s earlier work (even have a copy of _Capitol_), but not so much on his more recent books.
Congrats on reading 10 books! What wa the History of Hand Knitting like? Sounds interesting!
