Friday Five

Well, the tapping heat pipe has officially driven me crazy(er). I wish I had heard it when we were looking at this place, because then I would have passed. I just can’t ignore it.

Anyway, I’ve gotten up enough energy to try the Friday Five for this week. Having no cable to veg in front of has helped. (That is driving me crazy(er) too.)

1. What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?
Not much really, as I don’t like risk. Trying to find my way home alone on the subway today was pretty daring. So was moving out of my parent’s home and in with quanta in another city. It could easily have not worked out, and then I would have had nowhere.

2. What one thing would you like to try that your mother/friend/significant other would never approve of?
Being me, totally. I don’t know what everyone would think if I really was me. I would be a mother, a writer, some one who was creative. But, I think the changes would be to much.

3. On a scale of 1-10, what’s your risk factor? (1=never take risks, 10=it’s a lifestyle)
Maybe a 3, but that might be high. I hate risk. It rarely turns out right.

4. What’s the best thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of being bold/risky?
Having things work out with quanta, and being engaged, is the best thing that came from risk. It was risky to get involved in another relationship, and it was risky to tell him I wanted to move in with him. But it worked out.

5. … and what’s the worst?
Just about everything else.

I am so sad and out of touch with myself and all things spiritual that I missed Imbolc. I wonder if my short walk around the building counts as communing with nature. It would have been even shorter if I had got my key to work in the side door. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. My mom is convinced that I’m suffering from depression, which is probably true. (I was on medication for depression about four years ago.) I have no interest in things I used to love to do. I haven’t written anything for The Lotus Pond in ages, nor have I touched my Tarot cards or played a game for more then 10 minutes at a time. Something is seriously wrong, and a big part of me doesn’t care.

Swansea

It is the start of our third full day here in Toronto. I just went out to dumpster out back and took a little walk around the building. (Mostly because I couldn’t get the side door to open again with my new key.) I like it here. It is so quite and peaceful. We live in a small building, among about six other small buildings, in the middle of a residential neighbourhood. For those of you who know Toronto, we live in the area called Swansea, near High Park. We aren’t to far from the bustle of Bloor West Village’s shopping district, and just a short trip away is the busy, busy downtown. (And my fav bookstore!)

I think I can be happy here. We are living in a huge city, but we are also close to nature. There are duck and goose crossing signs on our street! It is the best of both worlds, I think. I don’t think I’m happy yet; that will take time. But for now I am content. Which isn’t so bad, really.

We Made It!

We’ve made it to Toronto. Everything got here in one piece, except my beautiful writing desk. It now sports a lovely scratch along the top. (And not in a spot where it is covered by my blotter.)

Unpacking is going well. Everything important, and many unimportant things, are now unpacked. I’m taking a break for now to let my back recover. *sigh*

Oh, there is a heating pipe that runs along our ceiling (hidden in a bulkhead). It ticks and clicks and groans almost constantly. I’m finding it very difficult to sleep. :tired:

Friday Five

Thankfully our moving arrangements have finally been settled. The madness starts about noon tomorrow, and we can move into the new place that evening. Unfortunately, if we do that it won’t be cleaned. Fortunately, the previous tenant was neat, and my mom and I will be going down before the moving truck to do the cleaning.

We will be without internet access this weekend. 🙁 But, early Monday morning I should be back online in TO. And, hopefully, nearly everything will be unpacked.

Anyway, on to the Friday Five.

You have just won one million dollars:

1. Who do you call first?

My parents. My dad plays the lottery all the time, and he would just die if I won! (I never play the lottery.)

2. What is the first thing you buy for yourself?

A big, but not too big, house and all new furnishings for it. I’d buy it today, because I don’t want to move again.

3. What is the first thing you buy for someone else?

I’d buy my parents a house. They have worked hard all their lives and the deserve something nice.

4. Do you give any away? If yes, to whom?

With the winnings only being one million, that is a little hard. That isn’t really a lot of money in the grand scheme of things. I really don’t know.

5. Do you invest any? If so, how?

I would, but I don’t know how because I know very little about investing. I’d like quanta figure that out.

More on the Move

I hate moving. Almost nothing is done. The living room is pretty much packed, and every room has been sorted and cleaned. But no movers are booked and we still don’t know what date we can move it. Obviously not until the 1st. quanta is trying every way he can to save some money, and in the process stressing me out even more. I am so close to just walking away and letting someone else deal with the packing and moving. I’m almost to the point that I don’t care if my stuff gets moved. I’ll take this computer, the cat, and maybe a few knickknacks and call it a day.

I’ve started address changes now that we have a new phone number. Unfortunately, Canada Post needed to be notified ten business days before the move. So, we have a week of mail limbo. You’d think in the age of computers and address changes added by the internet that they could do it sooner. There wasn’t even an option to call someone and request a quicker change. Heck, I’d have paid double to get it done faster.

Anyway, updates will be all but nonexistent until we get moved. I have so much to do this week, beyond staying sane. Packing, reading a book, doing research for an essay. Sadly, there isn’t much time for spiritual pursuits. Maybe if I was something, I don’t know, better or something, then I could find time. But I’m not and I can’t.

Oh yeah, the new people haven’t been approved to sublet yet. 🙁

And, damnit, I want cable when we move! 😡

Friday Five

It’s Friday again, and that means it is time for another Friday Five. This one was actually pretty difficult for me. It just goes to show how out of touch I am with myself.

At this moment, what is your favorite…

1. …song?
Extreme – More then Words… I think. I’m not sure. I listened to about six songs before I decided. But… I don’t know.

2. …food?
Something potatoe. Probably french fries.

3. …tv show?
CIS, although I don’t watch it very often. (And no more cable after the 31st! Whaa!)

4. …scent?
Oh, this is tough. I like to wear a raspberry scent, and I love the cologne quanta wears (Obsession). I also love vanilla scented candles and nag champa incense.

5. …quote?
If that which you seek you find not within yourself, you will never find it without. ~ Doreen Valiente et al. It is from the Wiccan Charge of the Goddess. (You can read one version of it here.)
