Dream of a Tomb

I had a dream the other night that I think meant something. Normally I don’t think my dreams have any meaning; they are just my mind sorting out the events of the day. But this dream was a little something more. I think it was giving me hints on how to resolve a problem that has been bothering me lately.

My dream started with me finding the entrance of a tomb. I was with a group of people and they were all very excited we had found this hidden entrance. We carefully removed the rubble and entered the first chamber. The left hand wall was beautiful decorated in monochromatic hieroglyphics, and the right hand wall was brilliantly painted with scenes depicting Roman gods. I was awestruck by the beauty. The person I was with said something about how rare it was to see the two sets of symbolism together, but it was amazing how beautiful they looked together.

As we got a little deeper into the tomb, I saw that it turned into a museum. My guide (?) said that the back entrance to the tomb had been discovered years ago, but the front entrance had remained hidden. I walked through the museum. It was beautiful–hardwood floors, fabulous exhibits, and a great sense of peace. I notice that the statues on display seemed to quiver when you saw them from the corner of your eye.

When I was finished looking around, I left the museum. I had started to feel that something wasn’t right. I left through the entrance of the tomb that I had discovered, recovering my sense of well being as I went. Then I woke up.

I’ve been thinking about what the dream means. Obviously whatever I take it to mean will be my part of my unverified personal gnosis. I’m okay with that though. There is something in it for me, something I am meant to learn. It is touching on issues that have been troubling me, and it is bring me closer to some sort of solution. I’m very happy with that.

Friday Five

I’ve been very quiet this week. It is like I have been blocked. There are ideas I’d like to explore and things I’d like to say, but the words just aren’t coming out. And here I thought November was going to be a creative month for me. Anyway, here is this week’s Friday Five.

1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?

I like to shop for some things, like books, but in general I don’t like to shop at all. Shopping for clothes is probably the worst, because I feel like nothing looks right on me. I don’t mind browsing, or shopping on a quiet day. Mostly, I just want to be left alone while I shop.

2. What was the last thing you purchased?

I picked up three books at the used bookstore a couple of days ago, but I’m not sure they count since it was a trade in. The last thing I bought was a pair of pants from Reitmans. I haven’t worn them out yet though, and it’s been almost a month.

3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?

Where I like to shop depends what I’m buying. Most books I prefer to purchase online, although I do like to see some of them before I buy them. I will also buy some software online. Just about everything else I prefer to buy at an actual store, so I can check out the item before I buy it.

4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?

No, I didn’t get an allowance. I did usually get some money when I asked for it though. Of course, I never really asked for a lot, so it wasn’t much of an issue.

5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?

Off the top of my head, I would say a great pair of high-heel boots I bought back in January. I love them, but I’ve never worn them out. I don’t think they suit me at all.

Topic 2: The “God” Resolution

Greene County Mayor Roger Jones has been a busy man since the County Commission passed a resolution proclaiming “God as the Foundation of Our National Heritage.”

ACLU officials say the resolution violates separation of church and state by promoting religion. The organization is considering challenging it in court, but has not made a decision yet. Jones sent the resolution and a letter to all of Tennessee’s county commissions in September. His letter appeals to county commissions to “… stand with the vast majority of Americans, to proclaim not only our right to acknowledge God anywhere in America, but that it is also government’s responsibility to publicly acknowledge God as well, especially in public institutions. …” read the rest: http://www.thedailytimes.com/sited/story/html/148097

What are your thoughts on this article? Should it be revoked? Or should we get ALL gods stated in this resolution? Share anything that comes to mind on this.

Although this topic was obviously meant for Americans, I thought I would discuss it anyway. Generally speaking, in Canada we have a pretty good separation of church and State. That’s not to say that citizens and politicians aren’t guided by their religion, but rather that we generally can keep it out of public affairs. I think a good example of this would be the recent debate on same sex marriage. Even though the Catholic Church told our politicians (many of whom are Catholic) that they were imperiling their souls, the decisions about this issue were based on law not religion.

I believe another reason that Christian religion doesn’t exert as much power over Canadian politics as it does over American politics is because of the number of people who follow other faiths that are part of government — especially First Nations peoples. Canada also likes to think of its self as a mosaic, as opposed to America’s melting pot.

I don’t mean this to be a bash on the American system. It is just reasons for why I think I see this topic a little differently, and why I have trouble understanding why it is so hard to separate church and state in the US. Our countries are different, with different histories and systems. Neither is better or worse, just different.

This brings me to my thoughts on the resolution. I don’t really see why it should have been brought up in the first place. But, since it has, I think it might be best if it were revoked. Why does religion always have to be an issue? Should not someone be secure in their own faith within themselves? Religion should be a private matter, not something that is forced on us in public insinuations or by governmental decree.

Still Alive

I’m still alive, I just don’t have much to say. 🙂

Friday Five

I haven’t written much this week because I haven’t been all that inspired. I’ve had a few ideas though, so hopefully I’ll have more to say soon.

Until then, here is this week’s Friday Five.

1. List five things you’d like to accomplish by the end of the year.

The end of the year is such a short time away. I’m not sure what I can accomplish is a little over a month. So, I will be realistic. I would like to:

  • finish the pillow I am working on
  • finish at least one more CFFN lesson
  • get into a daily exercise routine
  • get started on my notes for the Sabbats
  • finish a game! (I rarely finish an video game.)

2. List five people you’ve lost contact with that you’d like to hear from again.

Honestly, most of the people I’ve lost contact with I wouldn’t want to hear from again. There are one or two though that I would like to hear from. There are also a few people that I talk to occasionally that I would like to hear from more often. Unfortunatly, I am far to shy to try, and I really don’t know what to say.
The people I would like to hear from again are:

  • Belz
  • Colleen
  • Tamara
  • Morg
  • El

3. List five things you’d like to learn how to do.

This is an easier one, I think. There are so many things I would like to learn to do. Five of them are:

  • speak Cantonese
  • knit
  • create complex dbs in MS Access
  • meditate
  • read Tarot more intuitatively

4. List five things you’d do if you won the lottery (no limit).

Who doesn’t dream about this? I would:

  • give my parents money so they could retire
  • buy/build and furnish a Victorian-style house on a wooded lot just outside of a city
  • pay of my student loans and my friend’s student loans
  • buy quanta tha car of his dreams
  • have a beautiful wedding somewhere exotic, and fly everyone in for it

5. List five things you do that help you relax.

I’m not very good at relaxing. What I do to try to help me relax is:

  • read a book
  • play a game
  • have a hot bath
  • watch TV
  • sit with my cat, Isis

Overthinking

Okay, I know I said I was giving up on self-help books. Really, I am trying. Some are still on my bookshelf, but that’s mostly because the used bookstore doesn’t want them either. And I can’t just throw them away! That’s wrong! Of course, I didn’t need to get another one out of the library, but I did…

Yesterday I started reading Women Who Think Too Much: How to Break Free of Overthinking and Reclaim Your Life by Susan Nolen-Hoeksema. (Which, incidently, would still probably be a good read for men who think too much.) If I have ever read a book that seemed directed completely towards me and my problems, this book is it. The things the author describes come directly out of my brain. Once something bothers me I just can’t let it go. Thoughts run around in my little head for ages, get worse and worse. You might have noticed that reading my blog. 🙂

I’m just about to start reading the section that gives exercises and suggestions to help stop overthinking from happen. I desperately hope that they will help. I don’t want to dwell on things like I do. It takes so much energy and time, which I would really rather spend doing something else. Quieting my mind would be so wonderful.

On a different note, Final Fantasy X-2 comes out today. I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, and I am so excited about this game. But, because quanta isn’t working right now I know I shouldn’t buy it. Lay-offs suck. 😛 I guess I’ll just wait for a while to buy it. The price will drop eventually too.
